When people think of a paradise vacation, the word that often comes to mind is the Caribbean. This paradise on earth is made up of some 700 beautiful islands. Each year plane loads of tourists pour out onto the islands in search of relaxation, natural beauty and escape from the real world. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet. With a tropical climate, the Caribbean sees an adequate amount of rainfall throughout the year that varies depending on the island and region.
The sun is the region’s friend all year long, which is another reason it is a popular vacation destination. There is a distinct wet and dry season. The Caribbean is a king of biodiversity. The various species of animal and plant life make the islands incredibly beautiful and bursting forth with life. From the rainforests to the dessert regions, the islands are home to some of the most glorious flora and fauna to be found anywhere. Around eight percent of the world’s coral reefs are found in this area. Fungi is another area of interest for many. The Caribbean is home to a great many number of fungi types. While the people of the Caribbean enjoy and appreciate the natural beauty of their home, it has not been left untouched or unharmed by the human presence.
Logging and pollution have torn down much of the forests and destroyed the homes of many animal species. With a realization of what this means, the people have started focusing on eco-tours, with an emphasis on preserving the natural wonders of the various islands. Education is key to preservation. Over 37 million people call this lovely group of islands home. The people are highly diverse in ethnicity, background and even language. English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Haitian Creole are the most common languages, to name a few. While Christianity is by far the most popular religion, there are also many who identify with Islam, Hindu and Rastafari religions. The cuisine is one that incorporates ripe, delicious, tropical fruits, vegetables and large amounts of seafood. The general diet is very healthy.
