China – such a small name for such a giant of a country. With more than 1.35 billion residents, the country has earned its ranking as the most populous country in the world. It is also one of the largest of the world’s countries in terms of total area. The climate of the country lends to big distinctions between the dry and wet seasons. Temperatures can soar during the dry months, but the weather can also become quite cool.

The cuisine in China is one that is often surprising to visitors from other countries. While Chinese food in America or Great Britain may lead to false expectations, the true Chinese cuisine is far less sugary and much more healthy than in foreign countries. Ride and noodles are a staple part of the diet, while seafood, meat and vegetables are key components. The people tend to eat smaller meals, rich in nutrients and low in fat. They also ride bicycles and walk, rather than driving everywhere, so the country, as a whole, is quite healthy.
Tourism is a big part of the Chinese economy. Sight-seeing and shopping are both fun activities in China, and one becomes quickly acquainted with the ways of negotiation and learning when to say no. The markets are busy and ready for business from tourists. One must be cautious to not be overcharged for a product, and merchants are always ready to negotiate a price. Expect merchants to be present at most of the touristy places, like the indescribable Great Wall of China.
