Chandler ArizonaDoctor John Chandler, founder of Chandler, Arizona, wouldn't recognize the city that bears his name. He built the town of Chandler on his 18,000 acre ranch, and opened for business in 1912. The population exploded in the early 1990's, growing to 238,000 residents. The city boasts of excellent schools, quality healthcare, delightful restaurants and retail centers. The newly revitalized town center contains the award winning Chandler City Hall and the Center for the Arts. Tourists enjoy the Firebird International Raceway which contains a dragstrip and a road course. The Raceway hosts the National Hod Rod Association Arizona Nationals with racers hitting 330 mph in a quarter mile. The Raceway also brings in the well-attended Coors Monster Truck events. On the first Wednesday of every month, the Historic Downtown section of Chandler welcomes local artists and their works to the sidewalks. Tourists can browse and buy and visit the merchants and restaurants. Visitors can walk through more than a 100 acres of desert habitats and wetlands, picnic areas and biking trails in the Veterans Oasis Park/Environmental Education Center. The Center offers nature exhibits and programs. The Hamilton Aquatics Center provides safe water for all swimmers. The Center features a zero depth pool just for play, a simulated river with current, two water slides and a competition pool with eight lanes. The Chandler Center for the Arts brings in major talent such as the London City Opera and the Nutcracker Ballet. You can enjoy lighter fare with artists such as Jay Leno. The Chandler Skate Park is huge. The 35,000 square foot facility has a skating venue for all skill levels. Even better. It's free. The Chandler Museum will introduce you to Dr. Chandler and the time he lived in with exhibits of artifacts from the city's history.
