Estes Park is the main point of entry into the very popular Rocky Mountain National Park. In the Estes Park region there is a wide range of types of accommodation available for visitors. This includes rustic camping grounds, parks for recreational homes of every size, rustic log cabins and modern motels and hotels. Activities in the Estes Park region involve mountain sport activities the entire year long. There are several mountain peaks over 14,000 feet, great mountain river trout fishing, lake trout fishing, wildlife watching, hiking, camping, white water rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, boating, swimming and hunting (restricted season). As with other national parks in the state of Colorado, there is a wide range of difficulty available for hiking, trekking and high country mountain climbing. There are plenty of places to get information and sign up for escorted hikes, treks and mountain climbs. Several world class summer camps for middle and high school students are based in the Estes Park area. Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park, is the third most visited National park in the United States. It receives more international visitors than any other park. Visitors should make sure they advise their doctor of plans to visit the Estes Park region. The high altitude can be a problem for visitors with some forms of breathing difficulties. There are sufficient medical facilities and world class rescue teams based in Estes Park to help visitors with problems in the park. For those who enjoy the scenery but are not planning to climb a 14,000 foot mountain Estes Park has several world class spas. Birders have a heyday in the Estes Park area too with many organized birding treks available from late spring to early fall.
