Vermont is a charming, beautiful state nestled in the Northeast between New York and New Hampshire, right on the border with Canada. Nicknamed the Green Mountain State, Vermont is a popular destination for tourists who enjoy winter sports, backpacking, hiking, fishing, relaxing and the simple, yet extraordinary, beauty of nature. Here you can explore mountains, dairy farms, museums and even have a family fun day at one of the county fairs, where you can play games, enjoy rides and eat delicious food. You can even taste Vermont’s own maple syrup!
Vermont’s capital city, Montpelier, has an abundance of historical sites, museums and art galleries that visitors enjoy. A must-see is the Vermont State House in downtown Montpelier. You can stroll right in, on your own or with a tour, and take in the spectacular décor that includes dramatic spiral staircases, marble floors, and craftily carved wood. The State House’s dome is made of real gold.
From the State House, you can catch a glimpse of Hubbard Park in the background, another popular tourist attraction. The park includes hiking and skiing trails, sports fields, and entire sections devoted to picnic tables, grills and facilities. Be sure to check out the highest point in the city, the 54-foot observation tower, from which you have an amazing view of the city.
Another hot spot is Burlington, Vermont’s largest city. You can explore the great outdoors and take a boat tour on the majestic Lake Champlain on the Spirit of Ethan Allen, the boat named after one of the state’s founders. You can also dine in fine restaurants and have a field day shopping. Burlington has something for everyone. A must-see spot is the Church Street Marketplace, an open air mall and entertainment mecca with live street music, endless shopping opportunities, art galleries, restaurants and gorgeous architecture preserved over time.
Also a must is Vermont’s cosy little resort town called Stowe, where you can hike over to Mount Mansfield for a spectacular view and, later, enjoy a delicious treat at Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory.
